Still Under Construction for the 2010 swim year

The 2008 Coaching Staff
The Hammerhead coach for 2008 will be former Hollymead swimmer John Nelson.  John is currently an assistant coach with the Virginia Gators.  He brings a wealth of expertise in stroke technique and a strong passion for working with young people.  The Hammerheads are also exicited to welcome back assistant coaches Stephen Gomez, Julie Gaines, and Jessica Oliva who have been so dedicated to our program over the last few years.

Parents We Need You - Get Involved

One parent from each family must attend registration to review our team Code of Conduct and Expectations and complete the registration form and payment process.  Additionally, we will be asking each parent to make a commitment regarding volunteer positions for this summer.  We are fortunate to have many committed and hard working parents return each year, but many families have “moved on” which means new people need to step forward and fill these positions. For most positions the commitment is limited to only a few meets and if everyone takes a small role in the organization, we will have a successful swim team and an effective community effort.

Hammerheads Rule the JSL July 25th - 26th

JSL Swim Chaps - UVA Aquatic Center
The JSL Championship is held at UVa's indoor pool at the Aquatic & Fitness Center (AFC) located on Whitehead Road next to Scott Stadium. This will be a very exciting event for the swimmers, as they will be swimming in one of the finest swimming facilities in the country. Along with the excitement comes a tremendous responsibility for all swimmers, parents, coaches, officials, & the JSL Board to make sure this meet goes as smoothly as possible.

Swim-for-Syd July 19th

Thank you to all the participants in this past weekend’s “Swimfest.” 77 swimmers swam a total of 5,107 laps and raised $1,940.50. It was a festive yet moving event in honor of Sydney Aichs, the 16 year old friend and classmate of many of our swimmers who died in a traffic accident on her way to school in May. Participants ranged in age from 5 to 50-something. An amazing picnic lunch followed the swim. Many of the folks who attended found it to be a really special and poignant experience. Thanks go out to all the swimmers and volunteers who helped make the event a success from the lap counters, to the food and decoration donors, to the cheerleaders, and the set-up and clean-up crews. We also would like to express our gratitude to all of the sponsors who contributed money to help our cause.
